Dylan Thomas's Boathouse, an intimate venue overlooking the “heron-priested” estuary
Dylan Thomas first visited Laugharne in the 1930s, and moved here four years later.
The Boat House was bought for him by Margaret Taylor, first wife of the historian A. J. P. Taylor.
He lived at the Boat House with his family between 1949 and 1953, the last four years of his life, writing several of his major pieces.
It is now owned by the Carmarthenshire County Council and serves as a museum. It is open to the public for most of the year. It contains Thomas memorabilia and some of the original furniture.
Close to the main house is the “writing shed” where Thomas spent much of his time.
The Boat House receives about 15,000 visitors a year.
